Chemical tank testing - huge above-ground tank containing caustic soda | Seoul, South Korea

A tank of 83 million litres, measuring over 70 metres in diameter and containing a thixotropic 50% solution of caustic soda, was causing some concern.  It was believed that the tank would have to be emptied, shot blasted and inspected using NDT techniques, an exercise involving considerable health and environmental hazards.   MassTech technologies were applied to the problem and the tank was proven tight within a 24-hour period using the caustic soda as the test medium.  Tank usage was lost for just one day.
