Petrol tank testing - filling station | Major Oil Company, Surrey, England, United Kingdom

The station owner, suspecting fuel loss and requiring tanks to be tested, telephoned MassTech International and was put through to a director in the USA. Close questioning of the caller revealed that the water table on site was high and that a tank failure would probably result in ingress. Advice to check each tank for water was given. Further questioning indicated that only two pumps dispensed the ‘lost’ product and that one of these was a little slow to start and made strange noises. The MassTech director explained that if the tanks were clear of water they were almost certainly tight and that locking off one dispenser would either stop further losses or increase them.

The station owner called back an hour later, to say that his tanks were clear of water and he had locked off the slow/noisy pump. The station suffered no further losses and a contractor was called to replace the faulty line. The client received no invoice from MassTech International Ltd.
